Honors Forms

Certain classes within the Spartan Band Program can be taken as Honors. These courses are the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble. The Honors class is designated at the beginning of the school year and you agree to the added course work that goes along with this designation. The credit is open to all students participating in each of the listed bands upon approval by the band director. Each student who chooses to take the honors credit will be required to fulfill all obligations related to the curriculum for their specific band class, as well as other obligations that are specific to the honors credit.

Those honors obligations are as follows:

Jury Performance Guidelines

This is an opportunity to expand your repertoire of solo music for your instrument while working up material for future auditions.

You will be required to prepare a solo of your choice from the MSHSAA PML at a grade level of B or higher. The performance should be at least 3 minutes in length in accordance with the qualifications for State Solo and Small Ensemble. You must clear your choice with the directors prior to the performance. The solo choice must be on the instrument you are playing for that particular class. Students in multiple classes for honors will only need to prepare one solo to satisfy the requirement for multiple honors classes, however, you will only be allowed to do one solo performance for your jury to count as one of your two performance events per class.

1st Semester you will perform for your directors on a specified date towards the end of semester.

2nd Semester you will perform your class on a date specified by the directors towards the end of the semester.

Performance Qualifications Include:

 Solo of at least 3 minutes, chosen from PML

 No accompanist needed

 Performance ready

Performance Rubric:

We will use the general playing test rubric used for all classes in the Spartan Bands Program. The jury performance will be a maximum of 50 points for full credit.
